Sweet Pongal 

sweet pongal, is often made as a prasadam for various festivals in South India. However, it is a recipe which must be included in the Pongal menu. You can easily make this mouth-watering dessert recipe at home with simple ingredients like jaggery, moong dal, coconut milk, rice and dry fruits. This delectable recipe is perfect for serving to the guests on special occasions or on get-together like party, potluck, game night, birthday, anniversary.

Ingredients (for four people) :-

  • Moong dal - 1cup.
  • Rice - 1cup.
  • Milk
  • Coconut
  • cashew
  • jagerry
  • raisins (dry grapes)
  • cardamom
  • ghee.

Sweet Pongal

  1. Fry the moong dal (before washing) till it becomes little light brown (it will start smelling). 
  2. Then soak rice and dal separately for 10 minutes.
  3. Thoroghly wash and keep it in cooker with the right water (lesser is o.k)and
  4. cook it seperately (in two different containers).
  5.  Meanwhile cut coconut invery small pieces and fry in ghee. 
  6. Fry cashew and raisins also separately.
  7. Break the jagerry and put in water (very little) and make a syrup.
  8.  This is done because sometimes jagerry has mud and stones.
  9.  After we make the syrup strain it through tea strainer. 
  10. Put the rice and dhal in a big vessel andadd milk (may be one cup) 
  11. and cook it till all the milk gets absorbed.
  12.  Add jaggery syrup and again cook till even it gets absorbed. 
  13. Add three big tablespoons of ghee, powdered cardamon and cook again for a while.
  14.  Add fried coconut, cashews and raisins.
  15. Serve hot in two cups with a spoon of ghee.
